Coming off a 16-0 seasons and losing in the
Super Bowl is never easy. Luckily the
Boston Celtics picked up where the
New England Patriots and won a NBA Championship. This season
with the glamour of a perfect regular season behind them, the
Patriots will be looking to win their first
Super Bowl since 2004.
This mini-slump has to end soon, especially
with a team as talented as the Pats. Coach Bill Belichick has the
arm of Tom Brady on his side, as well as the hands and freak
athleticism of Randy Moss, the guts of Wes Walker, and the quietly
deadly Laurence Maroney.
The offense will get plenty of chances to run
up the score against the ultra-weak AFC East. The real tests will
come in non-division play against the Chargers in Week 6, the Colts
in Week 9, and the
Steelers in Week 13. Otherwise the schedule offers little
challenges (the NFC games are all discounted as being challenging
because they include NFC teams).
Gillette Stadium will be rocking again with Patriots tickets
giving fans to see the greatest show in the NFL again in 2008. The
team that topped 500 points last year is back without much change. A
solid line and a stellar cast will provide plenty of highlights in
Boston of touchdown after touchdown every Sunday.
The defense should hold despite the loss of a
couple of top corners and the continued aging of the defensive
stars. The Patriots did not even suffer that much from losing the
first round pick after Spy Gate. They managed to trade for the 10th
pick and give the linebacker crew some youth with Jerod Mayo. Vrabel,
Bruschi, and Thomas will have to step up after the playoff teams
exposed problems in the middle last season.
No matter what kind of defensive problems the
team will have, they will not be too much for one of the best
offenses ever to overcome during the regular season.
